A step towards taking protein-drugs orally

A “bioadhesive” coating has been shown to improve intestinal absorption of nanoparticles which could be made to carry drugs like insulin. Protein drugs such as insulin have to be injected because the stomach will destroy the proteins structure and its function along with it. More research is needed but the team at Brown University are confident this type of drug delivery could be effective.
